How do I know which service I need?
Start with what happened, not with the name of the service. The table below matches the most common situations to the page that explains them. If two fit, read both. The providers handle overlaps all the time, and a scene often involves more than one type of contamination.
| What happened | Start here |
|---|---|
| Someone died at home and was not found for days | Unattended death cleanup |
| Police were involved and have released the property | Crime scene cleanup or homicide cleanup |
| A family member died by suicide at home | Suicide cleanup |
| A fall, accident or medical event left blood | Trauma scene cleanup or blood spill cleanup |
| Vomit, feces or urine soaked into carpet or a mattress | Bodily fluid cleanup |
| Needles or sharps were left behind | Medical waste cleanup |
| Someone has MRSA, C. diff or norovirus | Infectious disease disinfection |
| A toilet, sewer line or flood put waste inside | Sewage and biohazard cleanup |
| A rental has drug items or residue | Drug paraphernalia cleanup or meth lab cleanup |
| Chemical residue or unknown containers | Chemical and toxic waste cleanup |
| Pepper spray or CS gas was used | Tear gas cleanup |
| Blood inside a car, truck or van | Vehicle blood cleanup |
What do all of these have in common?
The risk is the same underneath: something infectious or toxic is on surfaces or in porous materials, and ordinary cleaning does not remove it. That is why every page here follows the same safe pattern.
- Stay out and keep others out. Do not clean, and leave the air conditioning off if there is an odor.
- Wait for the scene to be released if police, EMS or the medical examiner are involved.
- Get an assessment. The provider looks at every affected area, including hidden ones, and explains what comes out and what can be cleaned.
- Get a written price before agreeing.
- Check the provider. Ask for its Florida Department of Health biomedical waste ID, its insurance and its waste disposal process. The Lakeland biohazard cleanup homepage lists the questions.
- Get paperwork when the job is finished, including a receipt for biomedical waste.
How do these services differ?
Who has to wait. Crime, homicide, suicide and unattended death scenes begin only after law enforcement and the medical examiner release the property. Spills, sewage and disinfection jobs can often start as soon as it is safe.
What comes out. Scenes with long-delayed discovery or soaking often need carpet, padding and subfloor removed. Hard-surface spills may only need cleaning and disinfecting.
What is regulated. Anything that produces biomedical waste, such as soaked materials or sharps, has to be handled and moved under Florida's Chapter 64E-16 rules by a registered transporter.
Who usually pays. The property owner pays first, and insurance sometimes responds. The homepage section on cost and who pays for biohazard cleanup explains the basics.
Can I call if I am not sure?
Yes. Call (863) 285-4232, say what you see, and we will tell you which page and which kind of provider fits. If it sounds like an emergency, such as active danger, strong fumes or a person who may be hurt, call 911 first. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call or text 988.
If you want to see where we work, the Lakeland service areas page lists every ZIP code and community with its own page.
Frequently asked questions
Which biohazard cleanup service do I need?
Match what happened to the table above. A death at home is unattended death or suicide cleanup, police involvement is crime scene or homicide cleanup, and a fall or accident is trauma scene or blood spill cleanup. If two fit, call and describe it.
Can one provider handle several types of contamination?
Often, yes. Many scenes involve blood, body fluids and odor together. Tell us everything you see when you call so we can match you correctly.
Which services have to wait for the police?
Crime scene, homicide, suicide and unattended death cleanup start after law enforcement and the medical examiner release the property. Other services can usually start as soon as the area is safe.
Do you offer hoarding cleanup?
We do not have a separate page for it yet. Call and describe the situation, and we will tell you plainly whether a provider handles it.
Do the providers charge the same?
No. Each independent provider sets its own prices. Ask for a written estimate that lists what is included.
